Milan Central Station

Milan Central Station is a huge monumental building, northeast of the centre on Piazza Duca d’Aosta. The train platforms are 2-3 stories above street level. If you have too much luggage: at the end of the gallery is a lift. International destinations include Barcelona, Bern, Geneve, Zurich, Paris, Wien and Munich.

Bus and train to airport

The central station is connected by shuttle buses to Malpensa Airport, Linate and to Bergamo Airport. Easyjet has flights from Malpensa Airport and Linate Airport (Ryanair from Bergamo Airport). The airport train is called ‘Malpensa Express‘ and operates between 5.43 in the morning till 1.30 at night. It takes 52 minutes from Milan Central Station to Malpensa Airport. Single fare is €12. There is no train to Linate Airport. The airport bus from Bergamo Airport stops along the train station. It’s about 150 meter from the busstop to the station square with the main entrance.

Train tickets

When we were at the station, people were waiting for a small number of tickets desks. Waiting time can take up to one hour. There is a ‘fast ticket desk’ where passengers can buy tickets with departures within 15 minutes. Most Italians used one of the ticket machines near the wall. A few tickets machines could be used to book the comfortable Eurostar and IC-trains but i think that most tourists will prefer the personal service of the window desk.

Train tickets online

It is also possible to buy tickets online. The name of the Italian Railways is Trenitalia. Customers have to make an account and print the online reservation. On the internet you can choose your travel dates, departure time, train type (IC, Eurostar or local), carriage and your seats. The fares online and at the train station are the same. The ‘standard fare’ is good choice. It can’t be changed in another time but is considerably cheaper than the ‘flexible fare’.
